March Musings

March arrived like a lion this year, cold, windy, and snowy, as March usually is in Northern BC. It is the time of year when people begin getting angsty about Spring's arrival, camping, and barbecueing, and everyone is looking forward to a break from winter. March is also a busy time of the year for many people, and as came up in a recent conversation with a friend, March seems like a "quiet" month, but only so because people tend to be so busy.
To top off, we also welcomed this month in with full moon, an occurrence that can lead people feeling anxious and high energy. Adding this energy with the vata-prone weather (dry, cold, and windy) in the Northern Rockies, it seems we can easily find our state of mind all over the place, full of energy, but without any sense of proper direction. If you are noticing these qualities, I challenge you to find some balance by focusing on your solar plexus, your firy power centre, and imagine encapsulating that energy to create a focus on where to direct it. When used wisely, this high energy can be very efficient at helping you to get things done.
I would also like to acknowledge that March 20 is the celebration of the vernal equinox. The vernal equinox symbolizes the coming of spring, and the point in which days and nights are said to be of equal time. Though real spring does not come until a good month later in the North, it is certainly noticeable that spring is not far off. We have already gained significant amounts of daylight since the the beginning of the year, and birds have come out to sing their spring songs. If you look around, you may even notice extra energy and sense of joy in people's attitudes. How about yourself? How do you notice the arrival of spring?
On another note, I have been in the works of planning my spring and summer teaching schedule, and am excited to announce that I will also be offering some workshops and events within the upcoming months. Starting in April, class times will be changing, and I will be hosting two workshops on refining skills in asana practice. For more information on the workshops, you may visit the events page. If you have any questions about the events, please feel free to send me an email at kimberly_kosmynka@icloud.com.
I am also looking into putting together a weekend event in the summer for yogis who are interested in bringing their practice into the great outdoors. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, stay tuned!
Happy March yogis,
Namaste
